There are download managers offering free music downloads, free game downloads, free movie downloads, free software downloads, free screensaver downloads, free DVD downloads, free video downloads, free ringtone downloads, free Mp3 downloads, free font downloads and free psp downloads.
 Some of these offers of free downloads are actually free, others come with small print. "In order to qualify for the free music download, you have to spend over $30 on downloading songs" is not an unusual clause.
Other free downloads, such as movies, are just clips, or teasers. Software downloads that are free, are usually just demo versions with limited capabilities or a limited time which deactivates the downloaded software once the time period has expired.
Microsoft usually offers patches and upgrades to be downloaded for free off their site. Many download managers offer free downloads to attract users. The free downloads are usually songs, movies, games etc. of yester year.
The aim is that once you are using their site, that you will then purchase the latest downloads from them. The not so nice of free downloads, is the amount of spy ware and add-ons that are also downloaded with the free stuff, usually without your knowledge.

The service is now advertising supported which will allow students to receive the service free with a .edu e-mail address. Several large music labels and independent companies have agreed to release song titles to Ruckus for a discounted price. CNET reported that Ruckus attempted to offer the service to schools at a small fee for students to receive free music downloads in order to reduce illegal music downloads. The service was originally offered to around 20 schools with contractual agreements. The switch to advertising-supported music downloads sprouted from the need for a free way for students to get music without the artists losing money. With advertising support, the record labels will get paid as well as the artists. In addition, radio air time for songs pay out only to music publishers -- with advertisements, artists and labels will receive some of the revenue.... | |
